A70 Supra Door Scuff Sill Trim Plate tab

A common issue with the A70 Supra is the failure of the factory mounting tab on the door scuff sill trim plate. Over time, the original plastic tab becomes brittle and breaks, causing the trim plate to loosen, shift, or repeatedly fall off. The worst part is that the OEM design fully integrates the tab into the trim piece, and the trim has been discontinued for many years. The only remaining option is to source a used piece on eBay and hope the tabs are still in good condition.

Our solution is a TPU expansion anchor designed to install underneath the door scuff sill trim plate. It restores a secure mounting point and keeps the trim properly seated—without the need to replace the entire trim piece.

Why TPU?

TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) was specifically chosen for this application due to its flexibility, durability, and impact resistance. Unlike the original rigid plastic tab, TPU can flex under stress instead of cracking or snapping. This makes it far more resistant to vibration, temperature changes, and the repeated forces caused by door entry and exit.

In automotive interior applications where components experience constant movement and stress, TPU offers:

- Improved longevity compared to brittle OEM plastics

- Resistance to cracking over time

- Slight elasticity that helps maintain a tight, rattle-free fit

These properties make TPU an ideal material for replacement tabs in interior trim components.

Installation

1. Remove any remaining portion of the broken factory tab from the OEM door scuff sill trim plate using cutting pliers, ensuring the mounting surface sits flush.

2. Position the TPU expansion anchor underneath the trim plate.

3. Secure the trim using a self-tapping screw through the mounting point.

Once installed, the trim plate will be firmly secured and resistant to future tab failure. Each side of the vehicle uses four mounting tabs (eight total for a full restoration). We provide a total of twelve tabs to allow for spares or future use.
